Electric panel heaters perform particularly well if you want instant heat in smaller or more infrequently-used areas. The sleek and slimline design of a panel heater makes it a stylish and space-saving heating option that’s easy to install and simple to operate.

These wall-mounted electric heaters get to work fast, heating the immediate area as soon as you switch them on. Features such as timers and pre-set programmes give you complete control over how and when you use them.

Unlike a fan heater, electric wall heaters are virtually silent too, so there’s no noise disruption when you switch them on. The slim and low-profile panel heater shape is particularly suited to modern homes, because they’ll take up less space and give you more room to plan your interior design.

Wall-Mounted Panel Heaters

Wall-mounted panel heaters work faster than a radiator, heating the immediate area as soon as you switch them on. Features such as timers and pre-set programmes give you complete control over how and when you use them. Choose a smart panel heater for additional features like Wi-Fi connectivity to control the heater remotely.

Freestanding Electric Panel Heaters

For added portability, choose a freestanding electric heater. Plug it in wherever you need instant heat, from garages and workshops to offices and homes. These electric heaters are virtually silent, so there’s no noise disruption when you switch them on.

Choosing the right panel heater for your space

Wattage & sizing

Match the heater output to the room. Small bedrooms and offices can get by with 500–1000W. Medium rooms usually need 1000–1500W. Large or draughty spaces may need 2000W or more. Always check the room size against the spec before fitting.

Mounting & placement

Most panel heaters are wall-mounted, keeping floor space clear and giving even heat. Fit them at skirting level or mid-wall as advised in the instructions. Avoid blocking airflow and check clearance from curtains and furniture.

Controls & features

Look for built-in thermostats to keep temperatures steady. Timers and boost buttons help save energy by only running the heater when needed. Some models offer open-window detection or weekly scheduling for added control.

Safety & compliance

Choose heaters with overheat protection and thermal cut-outs for peace of mind. In bathrooms or wet areas, only use models with the correct IP rating. For schools, care settings, or jobs needing safer surfaces, Low Surface Temperature (LST) units are the right call.

Build & design

Slimline designs are easy to fit in tight spots and won’t intrude on room space. Hard-wearing metal casings, powder-coated finishes, and durable vent designs stand up to regular use. Fan-assisted models give quicker heat spread if you need faster warm-up.

What’s the difference between a panel heater and other electric heaters?

Panel heaters are slim wall-mounted units that provide steady background heat. They warm air by convection and radiate heat from the surface. Unlike fan heaters, they don’t blow air, and unlike infrared heaters, they heat the whole room. They’re a reliable option for site work, workshops, or home use.

Why choose a panel / wall heater?

Ideal for heating single rooms, annexes, lofts, garages, garden rooms.
Good for zones you don’t always use, so you don’t need to run full central heating.
Fast warm-up, precise control via thermostat.
Compact design with minimal visual intrusion.
Safer modern options such as LST models reduce burn risk.
