Spanners
A spanner helps you tighten or loosen nuts and bolts quickly and efficiently. Whether you’re working on a new installation or simply carrying out repairs and maintenance, it’s always important to have the right set of spanners available.
A standard open-ended spanner has fixed U shapes at either end, offering a tight and firm grip for a wide variety of popular sizes. Choose a small spanner set for precision work in tight spaces, or a large spanner set for the bigger jobs – we stock a wide range of sizes for fasteners of 4-36mm and beyond.
Prefer to use just one tool? Swap the spanner set for an adjustable spanner instead – it’s a versatile alternative that allows you to quickly adjust the jaw width to grip a multitude of different fasteners.
At Toolstation, we stock a wide range of spanner types to suit any job. Using a ratchet spanner is perfect for precision work in smaller spaces, while a box spanner makes it easier to reach fastenings in recessed spaces. If you’re carrying out plumbing work, we also stock valve spanners and other specialist equipment.
Wrenches
Wrenches are a larger and bulkier alternative to spanners, and usually feature adjustable jaws for carrying out a wide range of heavy-duty jobs. Particularly popular for plumbing or mechanical work, a wrench set will provide even more power and force to take on the tough fastening tasks.
As well as multipurpose sets, our wrench tool collection also features specialist options such as pipe wrenches for plumbers and torque wrenches for automotive and mechanical work. Whatever spanner wrench you’re looking for, you’ll find it at Toolstation.
Spanner FAQs
What is a spanner?
A spanner is used to tighten or loosen nuts, bolts and other fasteners. Spanners feature a U-shaped opening designed to grip and turn the bolt. A smaller alternative to a wrench, spanners are often used for precision work in tighter spaces.
How to use a spanner?
Choose the correct spanner size to fit the fastener you’re working with, or resize the jaw if you’re using an adjustable tool. Once aligned, twist the spanner anticlockwise to tighten or clockwise to loosen.
