When you need an all-in-one painting solution, a roller set is a smart choice. Paint rollers are faster and more efficient than using brushes, with a smoother, seamless finish. You’ll find a wide range of paint roller sets at Toolstation from trusted brands like ProDec, Hamilton and ProDec Advance. From mini roller sets to rollers with extendable handles, to professional sets and rollers for masonry paint, we’ve got it all. Suitable for big and small paint jobs, roller sets offer great value and the convenience of having everything you need in one package.
Tray Sets
Roller tray sets come with one or multiple rollers as well as a paint tray - a shallow plastic tray with grooves and a reservoir at one end for paint. For large paint jobs, you can also buy professional roller sets which come with a scuttle - a large, deep, rectangular plastic used for XL paint rollers and bulk application. Buying a paint roller set takes the hassle out of purchasing separate supplies. It’s also better value, especially when you choose from Toolstation’s range of quality paint roller sets at everyday low prices.
Frequently Asked Questions | FAQs
Choosing the Right Roller Set
Selecting the correct roller makes a noticeable difference to the final result:
Short pile rollers (4–8mm): Best for smooth surfaces such as plaster, drywall and previously painted walls.
Medium pile rollers (9–12mm): Ideal for lightly textured surfaces like ceilings and walls with minor imperfections.
Long pile rollers (15mm+): Designed for rough or exterior surfaces such as masonry, brick and render.
Mini rollers: Perfect for doors, cabinets, radiators and detailed areas.
Extendable handle sets: Help you paint ceilings and high walls safely without ladders.
Why Use a Roller & Tray Set?
- Faster coverage than brushes, especially on large surfaces
- Consistent, streak-free finish with proper paint distribution
- Less mess and waste thanks to controlled loading from the tray
- Cost-effective kits with all essentials included
- Suitable for DIY and trade use
What is included in a typical paint roller set?
Most sets include a roller frame, one or more roller sleeves and a paint tray. Some larger kits also include extension poles or additional sleeves for different coatings.
Are roller sets suitable for all types of paint?
Yes, just match the roller sleeve to the coating. Use smoother sleeves for emulsions and longer pile sleeves for masonry or textured surfaces.
Do I need a scuttle instead of a tray?
A tray is perfect for smaller to medium jobs. A scuttle is better for large areas as it holds more paint and works efficiently with bigger rollers.
How do I avoid roller marks?
Load the roller evenly, avoid pressing too hard and finish each section with light, consistent strokes. Using the correct pile length for the surface also helps.
Can I reuse the roller sleeves?
Yes. Clean them thoroughly after use with water (for water-based paints) or the appropriate solvent (for oil-based coatings) and allow them to dry fully before reuse.
